I'm here at the Summit office, tinkering with the beauty editor's (who's on leave) iMac, trying to do stuff to pass time since everyone at Cosmo left already.

Why am I still here when there's obviously nothing to do? Well, school's almost starting and I still need plenty more hours to complete the 120-hour practicum requirement. The Cosmo people are nice enough to give me extra activities to help with my time requirement, but parang kulang pa rin. Anyway, this week there will be lots of "outside" activities for work, which means lots of hours to use up. Yipee. On Friday, there'll be a fashion shoot somewhere in Makati, which will last the whole day. I'll also have an interview with MTV's VJ Johan sometime this week. And he'll also have a shoot.

My OJT's fun and all, but I really wish it wouldn't drag until the school days. That would be such a pain, having to juggle school with work. I'm so envious of you people who are done with your practicums already (and some are even doing two, since one, apparently, isn't enough. Bleh. :p). Wish I had started earlier.

After work, I'm heading to a wake at Araneta Ave. My scholarship benefactor recently passed away. Farewell, Mr. Locsin.

Hello, gym!

After a three week hiatus, I went back to the gym this morning. Yey!

Twas my first time to work out in Fitness First Greenhills (they just opened last Monday). The place is not that fixed yet, though. For instance, some of the airconditioners weren't working, which was why it kinda felt stuffy in there a while ago. Other than that, it was okay. The best thing about the place is: no crowds. Felt really good to use the bike or the stepper without someone breathing down your neck (literally, sometimes). I'm sold--you won't be seeing me in the Libis branch for quite some time

Anyway, I worked out with Nikki (a.k.a my gym buddy), and we plan to go back tomorrow, (and the day after that, and so on) and work out at the same time. Might try the step aero class tomorrow. Watch out Cliff, we're on our way!:p

I feel I'm the only one who hasn't seen Matrix Reloded yet--not that it bothers me much. Frankly, watching the movie doesn't sound enticing at all. It's been getting bad, bad, reviews left, right and center, which made it difficult not to get turned off.

So instead of seeing that, I saw How to lose a guy in 10 days this afternoon with Carla, a fellow Cosmo intern, and her friend. The movie was so-so (although I love the Kate Hudson-Mathew McConaughey tandem)-- you laugh at some portions, you get kilig at some parts, and you know what's gonna happen in the end but you stay through it anyway. Still, I think it was a better deal than Matrix 2.

Hee-hee. Got this forward from a friend.

"Grimace is a big, loving, fuzzy purple fellow who is Ronald McDonald's best friend. He's sure Ronald is the world's ultimate authority on everything. While Grimace loves all McDonald's foods, he's absolutely crazy about milkshakes. Grimace is very enthusiastic and eager to try new things. His joyous spirit helps everyone overlook the fact he's a little slow and clumsy sometimes."

Ows? E ano naman ngayon?!?

Actually, si Grimace ay kontrabida na may anim na kamay na nagnenenok ng milkshakes. Ika nga sa isang website:

"Between Hamburglar (who stole burgers), the Fry kids (who stole fries), and Grimace, crime was running rampant in the 'McHood."

Isa siyang kamote.

"He's a potato."

Uh... okay! Whatever....

I'll post pics of the reunion soon

Haven't been updating lately, I know. Thing is, I've been thinking of giving up blogging for a number of reasons. But I decided agaisnt it--for the moment, at least. Blogging gives me something to do, especially when my insomnia hits. Like these days.

A good way to shock your friends is to disappear from the scene, then show up a month or two later minus ten or twenty pounds. Cliff did just that--he surprised us with his new bod when we saw him during enlisment last Saturday.

My God, he had lost so much weight since the last time I saw him (which was just a month-and-a-half ago). I'm so jealous! Cliff, I hate you! hehehe. We were talking about losing weight kasi over the summer, and he actually did it (unlike moi--all wishful thinking *sulk*) . He said he started working out everyday since summer began at a gym in his village, with each work out sesh lasting for about two hours. If only I had that much willpower again. I used to, during high school, but I don't know where it had gone. We had a class reunion last Thursday and some old classmates noted I've put on some weight since the last time they saw me. I am suddenly reminded of high school and what I used to weight--a lot less than I do now. In the recesses of my closet, there's a section dedicated to my high school clothes--a.k.a clothes I wish to wear again one day (pero puro "I wish" lang, hehe)--size-25 pants, size 2 tops, dresses that reveal--basta you get the picture. After the reunion, I went to that section of the closet and wonder if i'll ever get to wear stuff from there again.

Which explains why, after a three-week no show, I'm heading back to the gym tomorrow. I hope Cliff's perseverance rubs on me.

OJT in Cosmo is okay, except for the survey I've been tasked to do. I mean, c'mon, how do you expect to find a respondent in this part of the world when your topic is: "How I spotted her sex skills" (of course, the respondent should be male). I'm serious. The deadline is this Friday and so far, everyone I asked got hiya to answer the survey (okay na sana, but their picture will be in the magazine pa kasi). My kabarkada Nikki asked, "Pwede ba yung enemy ko nalang? I have his pic naman, let's make up a response nalang." I almost caved in out of sheer desperation, but nah.

Anyway, if you know anyone, or if you yourself would like to answer the survey, please email me. Will really, really appreaciate it.

It's been a sad summer for my friends.

Li's dad's condition was worse than we expected--the cancer has spread to his bones and liver. We visited him last week before heading to Macky's party, and we saw he has lost a lot of weight and seem to have aged 10 years. It's painful for me to see him that way (so imagine how painful it must be for Li), given that I used to see him before all jolly and well-built. They have two options for him: one, take him to that place in Subic where cancer patients are treated using herbs or two, Chemo.

Si Sheil naman, we were supposed to have lunch last week then she cancelled it 'cause she had a test that day. During the same afternoon, she texted me that her brother got into a car accident and was rushed to the ICU. My blood froze when I got the message. Her brother is out of danger now, but he's still not as okay.

Then Nik--won't make kwento na what happened to her. Just that I'm glad she's okay now. She's a strong girl--things like what happened recently made her that way.

When things like these happen to people you're close to, you could help but feel helpless. Couldn't do anything but listen, and pray, and wait... but maybe holding their hands as they go through it is enough...

Cancer again

Three days ago, I got a text message from one of my closest friends, Li, which went, "Please pray for my dad, the biopsy will determine tomorrow if his tumor [in his chest] is benign or malignant." Li has always been close to her dad, and I could only imagine how apprehensive, no, how terrified she must've been at that time.

I talked to her yesterday, and she me dropped the bomb. The results weren't good, at least not as good as they'd expected. The tumor is malignant. Li's dad has cancer.

The doctors told them the cancer is in stage 4 and Li's dad was receiving morphine for the pain. The good news is the cancer isn't terminal (apparently, a stage 4 label doesn't automatically mean the situation is hopeless). However, to get rid of the cancer, Li's dad has to undergo 6 chemotheraphy session--which is what worries Li and her fam. Undergoing chemo is never good.

Afterward, we tried to talk about trivial stuff ---events we'd go to, who was seeing whom and so on---like we used to, but I can sense her worry. Before we put down the phone she told me "Mel, iba talaga when one of your family..when one of your parents has cancer." Oh Li, I'm sure your dad will be just alright.

Jason Mraz phone interview

He was a good interview. Gave straightforward answers and was not too full of himself---if we can only have them like that when they're really famous.

M: When you're not making music, what do you usually do?
J Mraz: Well I like to read books, write, do photography... [then mumbled softly] and I have sex whenever I can
M: Excuse me? [not sure if I heard him right]
J Mraz: Oh nothing, nothing
M: [Knew I heard him right and couldn't help but laugh] Can I write that one?
J Mraz: Probably not [you could almost hear him blush]
