Skip this if you have something better to do
(Just something about my stupid, annoying wisdom tooth that's bothering me like crap)
I woke up quite early today--something unusual, to tell you the truth (my teachers could show you my tardy marks as proof). The wisdom tooth on my lower left jaw (which hasn’t erupted from the gums yet) was throbbing like hell. The tooth seems to be growing horizontally and was pushing against my jawbone and its adjacent tooth. Ouch.
Spent the whole day concentrating on the tooth, with matching hand pressed against my cheek (as if that would alleviate the pain, noh). Couldn't listen to anything but the throb: throb...throb...throb. During Philo, the teacher called on me to comment on Aristotle's idea of the Golden Mean. I flubbed my way out, and ma’am just laughed at my desperate attempt to reply. Naawa yata. After class, I did my best not to cry because of the aching. I swear, it hurt so badly.
After Philo, went home with Ann and the tooth continued to pester me. Even a text from James couldn't cheer me up. (Heeehee, Sam!). I was dying to go to the dentist but couldn't since I still have class later that day that I couldn’t afford to cut.
Went back to school at 2:00 to get a medical check-up for my immersion tomorrow (I'll be going to an Aeta tribe in Zambales and will be staying there from tomorrow morning till Sunday afternoon). Soon, I met up with Imo and she told me our next class had been declared a free cut. What a relief. A few hours later, I made a beeline to the dentist.
The dentist revealed that I need to have an operation soon (wisdom tooth extraction daw). And the operation won’t be just done on one tooth, but rather, on two since the other wisdom tooth on the lower jaw will have to be extracted too because of its awkward position. And the dentist said that the upper wisdom teeth have to go if the lower wisdom teeth are gone since they'll be grating on the gums, which will equal to a lot of pain.
So that means I'll be losing four teeth soon. Waaah?!! I've never heard of wisdom tooth extraction until some days ago, when I suspected that I'll have to undergo one soon. And it doesn't come cheap too. According to the dentist, the specialist charges P5000 per tooth extraction, since he'll be using diamond dust to seal the gums or something.
As much as I want to pain and throbbing to stop, I don't want to go through an operation! Injections are at the top of my least favorite things, and no way are they going to poke my swollen gums with those things. After that, they’ll have to slice the gums and hammer the embedded tooth to extract it. Eeek! But it's not during the operation that's bad. Rather, it's the day after the operation (according to Ann, who had two teeth extracted before) when the pain intensifies.
I'm putting off the operation muna.. I don't want to go through it yet. Have to psyche myself up since I’m quite chicken when it comes to these things. I’ve scheduled the operation after my parents come back from their US vacation, so that's three weeks from now. Aarrgh. Really, wisdom tooth is not a very apt name for such a nuisance.
