Law school life, oh law school life

How is it that I've managed to go through college without once getting sick, while here I am now, barely two weeks in law school and my body is already racked with high fever?

I swear, law school is detrimental to one's health. At least it is to mine. I used to take pride in getting by school by putting in the most minimal amount of study hours. But I realize now that my old study habits made transition to law school life most difficult. Also, the readings! I know we'd be reading a lot, but, golly, sometimes our professors think we don't do anything but read, what with the amount of cases they assign to us.

I think the shock of having to put in 12 hours (minimum) of studying a day (reading, memorizing and digesting) was too much, hence my fever. But my gosh, talk about wrong timing. Last night, despite coughing fits, dizzy spells and all, I was still bent on going to school today. I can't afford to miss class today, my once a week two-hour Legal Method class is today and if I miss class it means I can only miss class once more this semester. I also have Crim 1 today, which is perhaps my favorite subject this sem, and I hate missing that class, not only because of the high probability that the prof will give a 5 should he call me, but because I've read all of our readings today (or rather, forced them on myself yesterday, fever and all), and I'd hate to think that it was all for naught.

I miss reading for fun. I miss talking to my friends without keeping track of the time (luckily they are all v. understanding why I couldn't talk to them as much these days). I miss going out. I miss using the Internet all day and not feel guilty about it. I miss my Asian movies and series. I miss not feeling like I'm about to have a heart attack before each class, especially if I haven't finished the assigned readings (this happened during Persons class last week. I swear, I could here my heart pounding, especially when the teacher called my name to recite. Luckily she made me recite a case I've read, but my nervousness only managed me a 3 or something).

On the plus side, I've met some nice people in law school. My block, which will be together for the next three years (law school is a lot like high school actually), is quite cool. It's not yet totally bonded and all, but I think we're doing okay in 2 weeks. Once when we were bored in the library (yes, we're always in the library after class), my friend Ia and I made up some "love teams", pairing up blockmates with one another. Haha, babaw kami. Our classroom, courtesy of Sycip, Salazar, etc. law firm, is also very sleek, a total anti-thesis to an outsider's perception of a UP classroom. Reminds me of that classroom in Legally Blond.

Oh well, let's see how things go in the coming weeks. They say the 1st sem is usually hell, but after that things become better. Somehow, that comforts me. I'll try to update every once in a while.

Better go back to studying. I spent the whole day propped in bed, and I feel so behind with the missed class and all.
